Love Potion

Would you like to feel feminine, energised, and noticeably glowing for the Valentine’s Day? Then the entirely natural LOVE POTION is for you.

This recipe is inspired by Bali where I recently designed a series of delicious medicinal elixirs for women, and it all began with Valentine’s day. The owner of an amazing café in Ubud called WAMM was looking for something extraordinary to offer her customers for Valentine’s. Nutritionists do not usually design love potions, but since I specialise in women’s health and had previously facilitated a seminar on female sacred sexuality, this immediately felt like a meant-to-be collaboration.

The potion will bring a little bit of Bali to your home. Bali is a truly magical tiny island in the Indonesian archipelago where I lived with my 3 children for almost 2 years. Many people move to Bali to slow down, heal, do what they love, and to draw inspiration from the strong energy of the island and her people. It is only natural to embrace the idea of food as medicine in Bali – even my children’s school hosted a raw vegan café!  I’ve seen so many people get well in Bali because of the changes in diet and lifestyle they were willing to make – and so we had a very receptive audience!

The potion was offered to all the customers on Valentine’s day and it became an instant success with photos of full and already empty shot glasses flying around social media of Ubud residents.  And not only women had it. Men tried it too. People commented that it had made them feel amazing, sexy, glowing, energised, and that it helped to clear their thinking. Several women told me that they noticed receiving more attention from men! A friend who had this shot every day for several months reported that her menstrual cycle at last became regular.

Since then, we have designed a whole series of medicinal elixirs for women’s health which will be officially launched at Bali Spirit Festival on April 4th this year! A large portion of the profits from the sales will go to purchase ingredients for a post-natal supplement I have designed and will be given to the poorest mothers in Bali to nourish them and their babies in those first weeks after giving birth. I believe that the businesses with a heart that reach out to support the community are the ones that are really worth connecting with.

The LOVE POTION’s secret rests especially in its 2 adaptogenic ingredients: Shatavari and Ashwagandha. Both have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Shatavari is truly a wonder powder made from the root of a wild form of asparagus. Its name in Sankrit means “she who possesses a hundred husbands” – it is a tonic for the entire reproductive system for women of all ages and it helps to connect with the soft but powerful feminine. I often recommend it to breastfeeding mamas as it also acts as a galactagogue. It is the very ingredient that gives the glow in this elixir. Ashwagandha, in Sanskrit, means “the smell of a horse”, but I promise, this relates purely to the vigour, strength, and youthfulness of a stallion! Mentioned in the Kama Sutra, it is also recommended by dr. Gowri Motha, a holistic London based obstetrician, to be used by tired mums to bring back libido and to promote better mood. It also helps to calm the mind by getting rid of any unfocused inner chatter helping you feel more centred and empowered in your feminine self.

This is my revamped recipe for Valentine’s Day in 2018.

To make the Love Potion, all you need is a good blender, and the following

INGREDIENTS:

serves 2

1/3 cup coconut, almond, or any other plant milk

1 teaspoon (or the content of 1 capsule) of shatavari

1 teaspoon of ashwagandha

1 teaspoon maca

2 tablespoons raw cacao

½ teaspoon finely grated ginger root

2 tablespoons almond or cashew nut butter

1 tablespoon raw runny honey

*Optional taste hacks*  1. For those who enjoy the taste of coffee –  add 1 expresso coffee or, 1 expresso size dandelion root coffee which I love for its velvety rich taste and also for knowing that it has so many medicinal health benefits. 2. Crushed raspberry for a more fruity flavour.

METHOD:

Drip some honey into the 2 shot glasses so that it rests on the bottom of each glass. Blend all the other ingredients and pour into the glasses.

This libido boosting elixir is not just for Valentine’s Day but could be for every day, and for any time you’d like to get a boost of energy, increase in circulation, and a radiant glow.

Madga is amazing and her Love Dust is too! Thank you for the wonderfully inspiring explanation you shared and the recipe to make it oneself. I love your plan to give back to Balinese mothers after birthing too.

Thank you so much Lucy! 🌼
